My entrance into the world of photography is an example of a hobby that turned into a profession. It all started in 2000 when a contest promoter who knew that I had an interest in health and fitness phoned and asked if I knew someone who could photography a bodybuilding/fitness event. Photography was always interesting to me, having shot pictures since I was 18. My friend, Dave, owned a photo store at the time and did a little "shooting" on the side. Dave and I told the promoter we could do it ourselves -- and we did. The people there were thrilled with the photos we created and in that instant a hobby turned into a profession. Since then, I've shot photos of more than 10,000 people!

Today, you can find my photographs everywhere: magazines, promotional posters, brochures, living rooms, you name it. Obviously, most of the work you might have seen by me has been authorized and approved for use, but occasionally I come across some of my stuff that has been basically stolen. I guess that's a byproduct of getting your work out there in a big way.

Besides, my own photography work, I'm also the chief photographer for the Ontario Physique Association, Canada's largest governing body for physique-type events, and I'm invited to photograph events put on by other organizations.

I photograph people, objects, places, and things. Mostly, though, I like to photograph people -- there's something thoroughly enjoyable about creating a unique image of someone that they, as well as others, really like to look at.

My goal with photography is to continue to create unique and exciting images, and to capture things other people can't. For example, my reach into the health-and-fitness world allow me access to people and places out of reach to most people. I have libraries of amazing, candid photos that I'll be publishing over time.

I also like to create "stories" through pictures. For example, I took a photo of my wife each month that she was pregnant. When my son was born, I started to photography him on the same day every month -- his "birthday." As a result, when he's older, he'll have a thoroughly unique set of images that will tell the story of him growing up. I'm now offering this service to other people who want to have the story of their life, or a loved on, told.

I will continue on with photography and expand my horizons with it. More content everywhere -- my own projects, other magazines and promotional materials, the homes of people who wish to work me. In 2009, I plan to build a state-of-the-art photography studio and invite lots of people over to be photographed in it.

Soon I will have a new photography site called PhotoByDougSchneider.com. For now, you can see the sorts of things I've been involved with in the Gallery of samples below:
